I don’t have any words of wisdom this week, just support for a friend who is finding out the hard way that sometimes people aren’t who you think they are at all.  We love you.

You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead
And you’re miles and miles
From your nice warm bed
Just remember what your old pal said
Boy, you’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got troubles, well I’ve got ’em too
There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for you
We stick together and we see it through
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me

Some other folks might be
A little bit smarter than I am
Bigger and stronger too
But none of them will ever love you the way I do
It’s me and you
And as the years go by
Boys, our friendship will never die
You’re gonna see
It’s our destiny
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me
You’ve got a friend in me

Today I need to rant and rave a little bit. I have tried and continue to strive to be a decent person, to think about others and help when and where  I can. My mottos in life are “Follow your bliss” and “No regrets, only lessons learned.” This week, my mottos have been shoved to the ground and trampled on by people who seem to think that their wants and needs come before everyone else’s do. OK….let’s commence with the verbal barfage……

Self Importance

Over the past week, I have been bombarded by people possessing these traits and I have had enough. If it was just one person in particular, I could shake my head and walk away, but no, I have been run down by an entire train of people who have crossed my path without stopping to look left or right in their hurry to get what they believe is rightfully theirs. If I could get them alone in a room, I would start knocking them upside their stupid heads. That said, let me squish it all together into a nice, neat ball and rant on….

The world does not revolve around you. The world and its inhabitants do not owe you any favors and it’s time you stop acting like they do. If I hear one more person say, “so and so or such and such owes me.” I will scream. Nobody owes you anything. Things need to be earned.

Your job

You don’t deserve any of it until you figure out that you are not the center of this or any universe.

There’s no full moon. The witching hour doesn’t last all day. There is no excuse for the behaviors that I have witnessed. It’s time to stop thinking about yourself and think about somebody else. I don’t care if it’s anyone close to you or not. There are people dying in this country because they don’t have enough to eat. There are children dying in Africa because they can’t get clean water. There are people dying in a dozen countries because they are the “wrong” religion.

So the next time you start to hop on your pedestal and act righteous and indignant about some perceived slight someone has given you, jump back down. The world is a lot bigger than you and it’s time you realized it.

You are no better than the waitress you were nasty to for no reason.

Yelling at someone for a mistake does not make you a more important, better person.

Treating other people like crap makes you an asshole. It does not make you cool.

It’s Tuesday. I’m supposed to be kind today and I’m trying very hard, but I can’t be kind all by myself. What are you doing for someone else today?

I have had mucho, mucho kindness pop into my life over the past few days….let’s see, where to start…

  • Digital Rob played super dad all weekend with LW so Mamacita and I could escape to Phoenix for a weekend.  We had a fantastic weekend and I loaded up on a ton of new books from the most wonderful store ever, Bookman’s. There will be a blog post about my treasures soon….
  • The sales clerk at Bookman’s on visit #2 (yep two stops in two days) was awesome. We were chit chatting while she put all of my books in order about how much we liked to read, kids, stress, work etc., and she ended up giving me a HUGE discount! It made the trip even better.
  • The cashier at Cracker Barrel who hid the retired black bear Webkin for me after I left on Friday. When we stopped back in on Sunday, she saw me looking for it and said, “I knew you’d be back!” and produced him from his hiding place. I have him squirreled away for LW.
  • Mamacita for letting me tag along this weekend – even if she did drive me nuts more than once! *giggle*
  • I bought a Furminator for the dog. This is a kindness for LW and for me – we both suffer allergies up the ying yang as well as for Digital Rob, our in house vacuum maniac!  I swear we brushed a shih tzu’s worth of fur out of the pooch in under five minutes. My three word review? Best.brush.EVAH!

Don’t forget to stop by On A Limb with Claudia for links to the other Simply Kind Tuesday participants and have a great day!

I have a couple of kindnesses this week – real ones -…just because I’m feeling generous.

First, I am going to commit a random act of kindness or two. When I stop at the drive-thru tomorrow for a little fruit and yogurt parfait – shout out to Starbucks for the peach/blueberry combo – I am going to pay for the order of the person behind me in line. If there is nobody behind me, I am going to tip my barista $5.00.

Second, I am going to be kind to my body. I have been uber-stressed out lately and even though I have not broken my resolution to not eat meat more than once a week, I have been eating crap. I am going on a 48 hour clean eating fast. Fruits, veggies, no processed carbs, no meat, no sugar, no soda. I just need to detoxify myself for a couple of days because I feel bleh.

Third, I want to give a shout out to some of my favorite bloggity friends. These people are all on my daily to read list and I love them all dearly. They ARE friends, even if I only know them virtually.

CajunVegan – my RL compadre and confidante, the one I adore who shares my fucking fabulosity

FandPinLV –  another RL amiga who has managed to weather all of my ups, downs and sideways turns

Miss Attitude – the one I was fortunate enough to meet and can now call a RL friend

TopSurf – the one I wish would fly southwest so we COULD become RL friends

Claudia – awesomest of the awesome. Claudia centers me more often than she knows. She is my calming presence. She’s also the keeper of Simply Kind Tuesdays!

Devyl  and NotAMeanGirl – my girlies from the South…I love them so!

CitizenJaney – My second friend in Tampa – city of my birth. Her musical tastes leave me swooning and dancing at least once a week

PrincessQ – sweetest, funniest little DC girl I know!

Soren – sole man in this list. WOOT! His blog makes me laugh and cry, but it also makes me think and for that I thank him profusely.

So….be kind, go visit my posse and tell them I said hi!

I’ll leave you with a giggle today…thanks again to Natalie Dee. college-life

yarn ballsI am a knitter. I might not be an advanced knitter capable of weaving my yarns into stunning sweaters. The mere thought of knitting socks scares the crap out of me and I don’t think I’ll ever figure out gloves, but it is something I love to do.  It has occurred to me many times that much of my knitted handiwork never gets finished because I lose my inspiration.

My kindness this week is twofold. The first part is selfish. I am going to take 30 minutes every night this week and do nothing but knit. Just for me. Knitting centers me, it makes me focus and relax. That is showing myself a true kindness. However, I have to knit SOMETHING so I am back on the infant hat bandwagon!  I lost focus in November when I  started knitting my little caps, but I’m back on now! I will knit my little hats and send them off to Knit One, Save one. That is my kindness to others for this week – keeping a few little newborn heads warm! I have ten done so far and hope to get another few done by the end of the month!

Do you knit? There are tons of charities out there that accept hand knit or crocheted goods:

Warm Up America – You can make whole afghans or, if you have lots of random bits of yarn, make 7×9 inch patches that they will sew together into an afghan for people in need.

Knit One, Save One – Save the Children’s campaign to keep children alive and safe from many diseases. They have several infant hat patterns for knitters and crocheters on their site.

Project Linus – This group provides love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”

There are dozens more organizations out there, find one that you feel passionate about and get those needles clicking!

You can also donate your knit or crocheted afghans and lap blankets to a local nursing home.  I have a friend who knits CONSTANTLY. She never keeps any of the afghans she makes, she donates them all to one of the retirement homes in our neighborhood.

So, pick up your needles or your hooks and do something kind. For yourself – the sense of calm and relaxation. For someone else – something wamr and snuggly to tuck themselves into when it’s cold outside.

Happy Tuesday!  Don’t forget to visit our other participants at Simply Kind Tuesdays.

Ugh. I’m supposed to be on vacation.  Due to last week’s snow day, I am going in today for the meetings I had to reschedule. This is making me VERY crabby, so kindness….well, it’s not coming easy today. However, in the spirit of the holidays, I will make the utmost attempt to be kind by doing the following:

I will not snap at participants who can’t grasp the most basic concepts.

I will not kick the shins of people who ask me to do “one more thing” before I leave the office today.

I will return every single message that has been left for me since last Thursday.

I will not race through my meetings just so I can get the hell out of there and come home.

I will not roll my eyes and sigh heavily when I walk in the house and see the back of Cartman’s head peeking over the couch. Every.Fucking.Day.

I will try very, very hard to take a deep breath and count to 5, 10, 100 before responding when Mamacita once again justifies Cartman’s behavior and how I should “cut him a little slack.” Again, Every.Fucking.Day. Sometimes twice!

Whew! That’s a hefty list for this time of year, but I’ll leave you with a little holiday funny for the road!
